Library Facilities

Open Access:

Central library has an open access system wherein every reader is allowed to go to the shelves directly to browse the collection. This enables the reader to know the library collection well and choose the books of his/her interest.

Online Search for Resources through WebOPAC:

Users can browse the library collections through the web using Web OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). The Web OPAC can be accessed at http://opac.somaiya.edu/

Reading room:

Library provides well-furnished and comfortable furniture in the reading room.

Remote Access:

To optimize the usage of E-resources and for the convenience of the users, the RemoteXs solution is available to all colleges in the campus. Through this, all the subscribed E-resources of the libraries can be accessed remotely by visiting https://library.somaiya.edu/user/login and logging through their individual SVV Net ID & Password.

SVV Net ID:

All users of Somaiya Vidyavihar are provided with SVV Net ID which is used for accessing Internet, Wi-Fi, and Web OPAC.

Self-Renewal:

Through this facility students can renew online the books which are issued to them through WebOPAC. Link for webOPAC is http://opac.somaiya.edu/
Note: Overdue and reserved books are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.

Automated intimation of overdue books:

Through this facility readers will get reminder on their Somaiya email ID.

Online reservation of books:

Users can place reservations for the books they need to issue through WebOPAC, provided all the copies are issued out.
As soon as the reserved book is returned to the library, users will get intimation through an automatic email & SMS.
Reserved books by users are not allowed for ‘Self Renewal’.
If the reserved book is not collected within two days, then other users can get it issued or the book will go back to the respective shelves.
