Circulation

All the libraries of SVU are automated using ‘BOOKWORM’ an inhouse Library Management System (LMS). The process of circulation is fully automated, all the books are barcoded and all the users of Somaiya Vidyavihar have RFID enabled SMART ID-card which helps in circulation of library materials as well as in accessing the different libraries without any hurdle, which saves the time of the user.

 

Library Timing: Monday to Saturday 10.00 am-5.00 pm

Membership: Faculty, Students, Staff, Alumni and Visitor.

Overnight issue

In addition to the regular issue/return of books, reference books/ Loose issues of print journals, CDs can be issued overnight to the members of the library. This is possible only after 5.00 pm. on weekdays. The same should be returned back to the library the next day before 10.00 AM. If there is any delay by the member then the respective member may not be allowed to borrow for overnight further. Members can borrow only one document at a time. For delay in return of document, Rs.5/ day late fee will be charged.

Reference Services

Library provides quick reference and referral service to its users. Queries are answered using all possible sources. Ask A librarian, a virtual reference service is also provided by the library to help the users.

New arrivals:

List of new arrivals are regularly uploaded on the website for users’ convenience.

Current Awareness Service

Library members are regularly informed about the recent additions in the library. Content pages of print journals are scanned and uploaded on the website.

Discovery Service:

EBSCO Discovery Service provides a unified platform for library users to search and access from all the library resources to get a single set of results like Google.

InterLibrary Loan:

Global Common Circulation (GCC) is adopted by the campus libraries by which any student, faculty or staff member belonging to any of SVV Institute can avail the library facilities.

Photocopying

Photocopying and printing facility is available with the library. Users can get the photocopy of required information from library materials on payment without violating the copyright laws.

Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)

Library provides SDI service to library members keeping in view their area of interest. Selected material is provided to them in order to keep them abreast with the latest knowledge in their field.

Library Orientation/ User awareness programme

Library orientation programme is organized by the library regularly for the benefit of new students in the beginning of the academic year. The program is designed to educate the faculty members, students, and staff in locating printed and electronic knowledge resources for their information needs. This service is provided to individuals or groups on the basis of demand.
